Take That Big Step in Your Self Improvement Goals

Wednesday 28 March 2007

Self improvementSelf improvement for some people is about losing weight or finding a person to love.

However, self improvement for other people is all about a life long dream of some sort, such as becoming a professional actor, or of painting a landscape which will be featured in an art museum someday, or of writing The Great American Novel.

These goals are no less valid than other people’s goals, even though they are frequently scoffed at as being unpractical or silly.

The question people need to ask themselves when they have these goals, though, is “Why not me?” After all, someone needs to act, someone needs to paint, and someone needs to write.

People are paid to do these sorts of things all the time. The difference between the people with the goals and the people getting paid is that the people with the goals have yet to be discovered.

Set Practical Goals

It would be a shame to look back on life as an older person and wonder what might have happened if only a more aggressive pursuit of dreams was taken.

Self Improvement of your Occupational Status

Wednesday 28 March 2007

Self ImprovementMost often, occupation of a person is a defining factor. One of the first topics discussed when people meet is what occupation the people are involved in.

It is quite natural that improving a job situation goes hand in hand with the goal of self improvement because a person’s job can be such a vital aspect of his or her identity as a person.

Most of the people are looking to excel in their specific profession, and most people are constantly looking towards career advancement. So, what are steps required to improve occupational status.

Person’s Specific Carrier

Improvement of occupational status to large extent depends on a person’s specific career. A person teaching classes in a university might work towards achieving tenure. A person working in a corporate office environment may someday aspire to become some sort of upper management.

A waiter at a restaurant may someday hope to get promoted to a management position. While this is true of most people, there are other people who are totally content with their positions and do not seek any sort of promotion, but occupational advancement is one way to do it if a person is looking to improve their life.

Self Improvement of Your Relationships

Friday 23 March 2007

RelationshipsIn general, self improvement is aimed towards making life a more enjoyable experience.

Therefore, people’s self improvement goals should include the relationships they have within their lives and make a concerted effort for mending any strained or broken relationships.

Life goes along so much easier, nevertheless, when there are no major conflicts happening.

Deciding which Relationship is Worthy

Deciding which relationships need saving, and which relationships are simply not worth the trouble is the first step. It is good idea to have a thorough analysis of relationships because there are indeed some people who are not essentially good influences, or who spend a lot of time draining energy from people.

Maybe there is a friend had a minor spat with a person and has since lost touch; this is another relationship which is probably worth saving.

Perhaps once-close friend in a person’s life who has simply lost contact; this is a relationship worth saving.

Conversely, if there is a relationship gone awry from a major dispute then the person should analyze the situation to see if this is a friendship which once meant enough to where it would be an asset now.

Self Improvement of Your Shape with Healthy Diet

Self ImprovementIt can be difficult to establish good habits when it comes to keeping our bodies in shape.

In the present day society, we are surrounded by foods that are unhealthy and completely easy to access.

Even the levels of exercise have incredibly dropped around America, causing an obesity epidemic that continues to grow.

Several people add vigorous exercise to their daily routine in an attempt to get fit, but most often these same people do not take the time to examine the sorts of things they are consuming.

What good is it when a person after a sixty minute workout heads to a fast food drive-through afterwards to get a meal chock full of fat and preservatives?

Diet Gets Easier Eventually

You have to make a lot of changes at once when you begin a diet. Eventually, you will become more and more used to the way that you should be eating as opposed to the way that you used to eat.

Triggers are situations or events or even people that make us want to lift that glass.

  • Confide in a family member or close friend in whom you trust.
  • Think about any positive consequences you have experienced during any bouts of abstinence.
  • Talk about what negative consequences your drinking has had on yourself and others.

Self Improvement and Motivation

Wednesday 21 March 2007

Self ImprovementSeveral people do things because we are motivated to do so. We join organizations because we are motivated by loneliness.

A baby cries because he is motivated by hunger. What has motivated you to strive for your latest self-improvement goal?

What is our motivation if weight loss is our self-improvement goal? Are we losing weight because we are teased and wish to be accepted? Are you wishing to lose weight as you wish to wear a yellow polka dot bikini?

What motivated you to start on your journey to a tobacco less existence if your self improvement goal is to stop smoking? Did your wife threaten you? Did your young daughter plead with you to quit? Did your doctor show you a picture of diseased lungs?

Did you know that what motivates us can decide how successful we are at accomplishing our self-improvement goal? Which do you think will motivate you better, something someone else wants you to do, or something that has meaning to you? Well, believe it or not the answer depends on the circumstances.

An Example

Let’s say your girlfriend is very sexy and you are madly in love with her. She has agreed to “get serious” with you on the condition that you will lose 20 pounds.
